Troops have arrested a suspected bandit informant and social media promoter identified as Sule Yellow, following allegations that he used the video-sharing platform TikTok to promote bandit activities and spread propaganda online.

According to reports, the suspect was apprehended during a security operation carried out by troops deployed to tackle banditry and criminal networks operating in parts of northern Nigeria. Security sources said Sule Yellow had been on the radar of authorities for allegedly using his social media presence to glorify bandit groups and circulate their messages.

Investigators believe the suspect frequently posted videos praising bandit leaders and sharing content believed to be linked to criminal groups responsible for attacks and kidnappings in the region. The posts reportedly attracted attention online and raised concerns among security agencies monitoring digital platforms used to spread extremist or criminal propaganda.

Authorities said the arrest forms part of broader efforts by the military and other security agencies to disrupt the information networks used by bandit groups to intimidate communities, recruit supporters, and publicise their activities.

Security officials also warned that individuals who promote or support criminal groups through social media platforms could face prosecution under Nigerian law.

Banditry has remained a major security challenge in several parts of northern Nigeria, with armed groups carrying out attacks on villages, highways, and security personnel. In recent years, authorities have increasingly focused on tracking not only the perpetrators of violent attacks but also individuals suspected of aiding them through information sharing, propaganda, or logistics support.

Following his arrest, Sule Yellow is expected to undergo further interrogation as security agencies attempt to determine whether he was directly connected to bandit groups or acting independently as an online promoter.

Officials say investigations are ongoing and more arrests could follow as authorities continue efforts to dismantle networks linked to bandit operations in the region.
