In a remarkable twist of fate, a vehicle stolen over a decade ago in Benue State has been recovered in Ebonyi bringing closure to a case that seemed long forgotten.
The car, a Toyota Camry, was originally reported stolen on August 13, 2015, but resurfaced 11 years later during a routine verification process.
The breakthrough came when officials at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) desk noticed discrepancies in the car’s registration documents during a standard check. What initially appeared to be a normal registration quickly turned suspicious.
Further investigation revealed the truth:
the vehicle had been re-registered with a new plate number in an attempt to conceal its identity.
Once the original owner was contacted, he confirmed the car had indeed been stolen years earlier in Benue. This triggered a coordinated response between the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the police.
The operation led to the recovery of the vehicle in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on March 27, 2026.
