Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Lagos to brief President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the deteriorating security situation in Maiduguri.

His visit follows an on-the-spot assessment trip to Maiduguri, which he undertook at the directive of the president after recent deadly attacks in the city.

During his visit to Borno State, Shettima met with affected families, community leaders, and stakeholders to evaluate the situation firsthand and offer condolences to victims. He is now expected to present his findings and recommendations to the president.

The briefing comes in the wake of multiple suicide bombings in Maiduguri that left at least 23 people dead and over 100 injured, highlighting renewed security concerns in the region.

Officials say the outcome of the meeting could shape the federal government’s next steps in addressing the crisis, including strengthening security operations and providing support to affected communities.

After the briefing, the vice president is also expected to participate in official engagements with the president alongside other political leaders.

The development underscores the urgency of the security situation in Nigeria’s northeast and the federal government’s effort to respond with updated, on-ground intelligence.
