The Ogun State Government has taken decisive action at one of the busiest corridors in the Southwest, demolishing shanties and makeshift structures around Sango Tollgate in a bid to curb recurring road accidents.
The demolition targeted illegal roadside stalls and structures built on road setbacks, especially around the tollgate and under-bridge areas linking Ogun and Lagos.
For years, the Sango Tollgate axis has been notorious for heavy traffic and frequent accidents. Authorities say the presence of traders operating dangerously close to the road has been a major contributing factor—often putting both sellers and commuters at risk.
Leading the operation, officials from the Ministry of Environment explained that the exercise was not sudden. According to them, multiple warnings and eviction notices had been issued to traders before the demolition was carried out.
Importantly, the government says it has provided an alternative trading location along Plaza Road in Sango, urging affected traders to relocate rather than return to the high-risk tollgate area.
