Nigeria’s political landscape has taken a dramatic turn as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a major realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate under the NNPP formally registered with the party on Monday in Kano, receiving his membership card in what many observers are calling a defining political moment.

Kwankwaso’s move did not come out of nowhere. For months, there had been speculation about his next political step following internal dynamics within his former party and broader opposition conversations.

His decision to join ADC is widely seen as part of a larger coalition-building effort, aimed at strengthening opposition forces ahead of 2027.

At the event, several high-profile political figures were present, including David Mark, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Aminu Tambuwal—a signal that this move goes beyond a simple defection and may represent the emergence of a broader political alliance.

The ADC, once a relatively smaller party, is quickly becoming a rallying platform for opposition figures seeking to challenge the dominance of established parties.
