The Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State have arrested two suspects over a shocking case of conspiracy and staged kidnapping designed to extort money from a victim’s family.
According to police reports, the suspects both 25 years old were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu after investigations into the case.
The victim, an 18-year-old girl, was later found unharmed in a forest in the area. However, during interrogation, she confessed that the kidnapping was not real but carefully planned in collaboration with her boyfriend.
The plan was reportedly to extort as much as ₦3 million from her parents. Before the scheme was uncovered, the family had already paid ₦240,000 into her account as part of the ransom demand.
Police also revealed that the suspects had been moving from place to place for about two months to make the kidnapping appear genuine. The boyfriend, identified as the mastermind, fled upon sighting the police and is currently on the run.
Items recovered from the suspects include multiple SIM cards, a WiFi device, phones, and materials used to stage the abduction, further confirming the premeditated nature of the crime.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will be charged to court upon completion.
