The Nigeria Police Force has begun moves to arrest students expelled from Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, Edo State, following a disturbing viral video showing the brutal bullying of a fellow student.

The incident, which circulated widely on social media, showed two students repeatedly beating, kicking, and dragging a younger student on the floor while he cried in pain. In the footage, one of the attackers was seen stomping on the victim’s chest while another used a belt during the assault.

The video sparked outrage among Nigerians online and triggered swift action from the school management. Authorities at Igbinedion Education Centre confirmed the incident and announced that the students involved had been expelled with immediate effect, citing the institution’s strict zero-tolerance policy on bullying, intimidation, and violence.

Despite the expulsion, the police say disciplinary action by the school is not sufficient, as the matter also involves possible criminal offences. The Edo State Police Command has therefore launched a full investigation into the case and asked the school authorities to assist in identifying and handing over the students involved.

Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem explained that the command has already visited the school and opened a detailed inquiry into the incident. She noted that the police cannot rely solely on the school’s disciplinary measures and must ensure that anyone involved faces legal consequences in line with the law and their ages.

Authorities have also called on the victim and his parents to come forward and formally report the incident to aid the investigation and help identify all those responsible for the assault.

The development has reignited concerns about bullying and violence in schools, with many Nigerians calling for stricter disciplinary measures and stronger protection for students.

Police say investigations are ongoing and assured the public that those responsible for the attack will be identified, arrested, and made to face the law.
