Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 70-year-old man alongside three other suspects over alleged attempted murder and cult-related activities.
The suspects identified as Okon Akpan (70), John Samson (45), Emmanuel Asuquo (50), and Idorenyin Umoh (22)were apprehended in Ikot Asukpong village, located in Uruk Anam Local Government Area.
According to the police, the arrests followed credible intelligence linked to a petition alleging attempted murder, malicious damage, and cultism in the area. Detectives reportedly carried out a targeted operation that led to the successful capture of the suspects.
During the operation, security operatives recovered one locally fabricated pistol and two long guns, further strengthening suspicions of the group’s involvement in violent criminal activities.
Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected gang, while assuring residents that the situation remains under control. The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in the state also reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to continue providing timely and useful information to support crime-fighting efforts.
