Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has described Nigeria as a nation “shrouded in contradiction,” expressing concern over what he called the widening gap between the country’s enormous potential and its current socio-economic realities.
In a recent statement, Obi said Nigeria is blessed with vast human and natural resources but continues to struggle with poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship. According to him, the situation reflects a troubling contradiction where a resource-rich country still fails to provide basic opportunities and a decent standard of living for many of its citizens.
The former governor of Anambra State stressed that despite the country’s status as one of Africa’s largest economies, millions of Nigerians remain trapped in difficult living conditions. He argued that the persistence of unemployment, rising inflation, and growing insecurity demonstrates the urgent need for more responsible and visionary leadership.
Obi also called for a shift in governance priorities, urging leaders to focus on policies that promote economic productivity, human capital development, and long-term national growth.
