The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has deepened after a faction loyal to Nyesom Wike elected Ibrahim Kassim Toro as the party’s state chairman during a congress held over the weekend.

The congress, organised by the faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, reportedly produced a new state executive committee through a consensus arrangement among stakeholders. The exercise was said to have been attended by party leaders and monitored by officials of the electoral body as well as security personnel.

According to Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the outgoing chairman of the Bauchi PDP Caretaker Committee, the process that produced Toro and other executives followed an agreement among aspirants and party stakeholders to adopt a consensus approach in selecting members of the new leadership.

Aside from Toro as chairman, the congress also elected Bashir Tahir Misau as deputy chairman, while Nazif Sabo Likita Jama’are emerged as secretary. Other officials elected into the executive council include vice chairmen representing the North, Central and South zones of the state, along with officers for key positions such as organising secretary, treasurer, women leader and youth leader.
