Nigerian troops have reportedly neutralised 61 terrorists during a series of coordinated military operations in Borno State, as security forces intensify efforts to curb insurgency in the North-East.
According to military sources, the operation was carried out by troops under Operation Hadin Kai, targeting known terrorist enclaves and hideouts across strategic locations in the state. The offensive is part of ongoing clearance operations aimed at dismantling remnants of insurgent groups operating in the region.
The troops were said to have engaged the terrorists in fierce gun battles, successfully overwhelming them and recovering arms, ammunition, and other logistics used by the insurgents. The operation also reportedly disrupted planned attacks and weakened the operational capacity of the террорист groups.
Security analysts say the development reflects renewed military pressure on insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), both of which have been responsible for years of violence in northeastern Nigeria.
The latest success comes amid a recent surge in attacks, including deadly bombings in Maiduguri that left dozens dead and over a hundred injured, highlighting the persistent threat in the region.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining offensive operations until all террорист elements are neutralised, while also urging residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely intelligence.
Despite the reported gains, experts warn that insurgent groups remain capable of launching asymmetric attacks, including ambushes and bombings, making sustained vigilance and intelligence-driven operations critical.
The Nigerian Armed Forces say they will continue to intensify both ground and aerial operations across Borno and surrounding states to restore lasting peace and security in the region.
