A Nigerian man has staged a protest in the United Kingdom against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima during their official state visit to the country.
The protest occurred as Tinubu attended a high-profile diplomatic engagement hosted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, part of a broader effort to strengthen UK–Nigeria relations.
In viral footage circulating online, the man was seen holding placards and shouting slogans critical of the Nigerian government, accusing the administration of worsening economic hardship and insecurity in the country. He was reportedly confronted by security officers during the protest, with witnesses saying he nearly faced arrest before being restrained.
The demonstration comes amid a wider wave of protests by Nigerian activists and diaspora groups in the UK, some of whom used the occasion of the president’s visit to demand accountability and draw attention to issues such as inflation, insecurity, and governance concerns.
The Nigerian government has not officially responded to the specific protest incident, but the state visit itself has been framed as a major diplomatic milestone aimed at deepening trade, cultural, and political ties between both nations.
Observers say such protests reflect growing political engagement among Nigerians abroad, especially as economic and security challenges continue to spark debate both at home and within the diaspora community.
Despite the disruption, the state visit continued as planned, with both governments emphasizing cooperation and long-standing bilateral relations.
