A Nigerian dietitian has been removed from the United Kingdom’s professional register after a tribunal found she lied on her job application to secure a healthcare role.
The practitioner, Ifeyinwa Chizube Ndulue-Nonso, was struck off by the Health and Care Professions Council following findings that she falsely claimed expertise in multiple medical specialties she was not qualified in.
According to the tribunal, she applied for a Band 6 dietitian position at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where she significantly exaggerated her knowledge in areas such as cancer care, neurology, gastrointestinal conditions, and artificial feeding.
However, concerns about her competence emerged just days after she resumed work in February 2024. Supervisors reported that she could not explain basic medical conditions, struggled with fundamental concepts like calculating body mass index (BMI), and even misidentified medical equipment such as feeding tubes.
The panel also found that she lacked basic anatomical knowledge and admitted during questioning that she had included information in her application that she did not fully understand.
Although no patients were harmed—largely because she was restricted from clinical duties—the tribunal concluded that her actions posed a serious risk to patient safety. It described her conduct as “deliberate and persistent dishonesty” that undermined trust in the profession.
As a result, she was permanently removed from the UK register, meaning she can no longer practise as a licensed dietitian in the country. The panel ruled that lesser sanctions, such as suspension, would not be sufficient given the severity of the misconduct.
