The Nigerian Army has released video footage showing the aftermath of a major military operation in which at least 63 terrorists, including commanders, were neutralised in Borno State.
According to the Army, the insurgents believed to be members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were killed after launching a coordinated attack on a military formation in Mallam Fatori, located in Abadam Local Government Area.
Military authorities disclosed that the attackers attempted to breach the 68 Battalion’s Main Defensive Area during the assault but were successfully repelled by troops who responded with both ground and tactical operations.
The Army further revealed that the insurgents advanced on foot from nearby locations and were supported by armed drones, indicating a high level of coordination in the attempted attack. However, troops were able to withstand the offensive and inflict heavy casualties on the attackers.
In the video shared via the Army’s official platforms, multiple bodies of the neutralised terrorists can be seen scattered across the battlefield, providing visual confirmation of the scale of the operation.
Following the successful defence, the military said it has launched follow-up operations to track down fleeing insurgents, with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets deployed to prevent regrouping and further attacks.
The development comes amid a renewed wave of violence in Borno, including recent bombings and attempted assaults on military bases, suggesting that insurgent groups are intensifying efforts despite sustained military pressure.
Security analysts note that while such victories demonstrate the military’s growing tactical response, the continued attacks highlight the persistent and evolving threat posed by insurgent groups in Nigeria’s North-East.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist networks, vowing to sustain operations until all remaining elements are eliminated.
