Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a cocaine trafficking attempt in Lagos, where illegal drugs were concealed inside frozen fish.
According to officials, the seizure occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where a shipment of frozen fish was being processed for export or transfer when officers discovered an unusual package. Upon inspection, they found that blocks of cocaine had been hidden within the fish, suggesting a deliberate attempt to disguise the drugs and evade security screening.
The NDLEA says the amount of cocaine recovered is significant, and that the discovery is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on increasingly creative smuggling methods used by drug traffickers. In recent months, authorities have seized narcotics hidden in various unlikely items including food products, clothing, and other everyday goods.
Suspects linked to the shipment have been taken into custody, and investigations are underway to trace the source of the consignment and any individuals involved in the trafficking network.
The agency has reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders and air transport hubs from being exploited as transit points for illicit drugs, urging workers and travellers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
