Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered multiple attempts to traffic hard drugs through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, seizing opioids and methamphetamine concealed in unusual ways.

According to the agency, drug trafficking networks hid substances in carton walls, winter jackets, and even body cream containers in a bid to evade detection.

One suspect was arrested while trying to board a flight to Italy with 2,698 tramadol pills hidden inside skin-lightening cream containers packed in his luggage.

In another case, a passenger travelling to Milan was caught with a massive haul of opioids—over 28,000 pills—concealed inside two large winter jackets.

NDLEA also intercepted 158 grams of methamphetamine hidden within the walls of a carton that was being shipped abroad, showing the increasingly sophisticated methods used by traffickers.

Additionally, officers at a Lagos courier facility recovered cannabis concealed in parcels shipped from the United States, further highlighting the scale of drug trafficking operations targeting Nigeria as both a transit and destination point.

Authorities confirmed that suspects linked to the shipments have been arrested and investigations are ongoing.

The bust underscores a growing trend drug traffickers are becoming more creative, but enforcement agencies are also stepping up with tighter surveillance and intelligence-led operations.
