Real Madrid and France captain Kylian Mbappé is currently in Paris undergoing further medical evaluation of his troubled left knee, but no surgical intervention is planned at this stage, the French forward’s camp and club sources say.
Mbappé has been sidelined from recent action including Real Madrid’s Champions League playoff against Benfica due to persistent pain from a left knee ligament issue that has affected him since late 2025. In agreement with club medical staff, he travelled to Paris with Real Madrid doctors to conduct additional tests and refine his recovery plan.
According to his entourage, the aim of the ongoing assessment is to “optimise his follow-up care and prepare for his comeback,” with all parties involved agreeing that rest and rehabilitation are the priorities at this point. They emphasised that surgery is not being considered for now as the chosen approach focuses on conservative treatment.
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa previously explained the decision to hold the striker back from recent matches, describing the move as a mutual choice aimed at allowing Mbappé to recover fully and return at 100 per cent rather than risk worsening the injury.
The forward’s exact timeline for return remains unclear, and his availability for upcoming fixtures including Real Madrid’s Champions League Round of 16 matches against Manchester City is still uncertain as the club prioritises his long-term fitness over rushing his comeback.
