In a sweeping operation across Delta State, security forces have carried out one of the largest crackdowns in recent times, arresting over 270 suspects and recovering significant quantities of illicit drugs in coordinated raids.
The operation, led by the Delta State Police Command, targeted crime hotspots and black spots across Warri, Uvwie, Jeddo, and Ughelli areas long associated with drug activity and criminal hideouts.
What makes this operation notable is not just the number of arrests, but the scale and coordination behind it.
Acting on intelligence, police teams stormed multiple locations, including hotels and buildings suspected to be fronts for illegal activities. Many of these locations, authorities said, were being used as brothels and safe havens for suspected cultists and criminal networks.
The crackdown unfolded in phases.
An initial raid led to the arrest of 59 suspects, while a follow-up operation in Ughelli alone resulted in over 200 additional arrests, bringing the total to more than 270.
Recovered items paint a clearer picture of the environment authorities were targeting. Among the substances seized were:
- Codeine and crack cocaine
- Canadian “loud” and “colos”
- Tramadol and CSC syrup
- Indian hemp and other illicit drugs
All suspects have since been handed over to relevant police units for investigation, with authorities promising that those found guilty will be prosecuted.
