Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed several bandits during an offensive operation targeting hideouts linked to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji in the North-West.
According to reports, the operation was carried out in forest areas around Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where Turji’s camps are known to be located.
Security sources revealed that troops engaged fighters loyal to Turji in a fierce gun battle after the bandits attempted to ambush them from concealed positions in the forest. However, the soldiers responded with superior firepower, killing several of the attackers in the process.
The operation was part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves and weaken the network of the notorious kingpin, who has been linked to multiple attacks across Zamfara, Sokoto, and neighbouring states.
Despite the success, some security personnel reportedly sustained injuries during the clash and were evacuated for medical treatment.
Authorities say clearance operations are continuing in the area, with troops maintaining pressure on fleeing bandits and working to completely dislodge them from their strongholds.
The latest strike signals continued momentum in the military’s campaign against banditry, particularly targeting high-profile figures like Turji and their operational bases.
