The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Alabi Anthony, for allegedly raping and killing a woman in the state.
The incident occurred in Iboropa community, Akoko North-East Local Government Area, where the victim, Olaseni Veronica, was reportedly attacked.
According to police authorities, the suspect allegedly raped the woman and then strangled her to death after the assault.
Investigations revealed that detectives were able to track the suspect through the victim’s missing mobile phone, which led to his arrest.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the crime, admitting to both the sexual assault and the killing.
The case has since been transferred to the state police headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution, while authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued.
The incident adds to growing concerns over violent crimes, particularly gender-based violence, and the need for stronger protection and swift justice for victims.
