The Lagos State Government has announced the reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, bringing back the one‑day community clean‑up initiative aimed at promoting hygiene, public health, and environmental cleanliness across the state.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the move was part of efforts to address environmental challenges such as waste accumulation, blocked drains, flooding and the general degradation of public spaces. He emphasised that the exercise will help reinforce responsible waste disposal practices among residents and strengthen community involvement in keeping the state clean.
According to the government, the monthly exercise will take place on the first Saturday of every month, during which residents, community leaders, businesses and government agencies will collaborate to clean up their neighbourhoods. Wahab noted that the practice had in the past significantly reduced environmental hazards
