Unknown gunmen have abducted four persons in Oyo State, triggering renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the South-West.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped along the Igbeti–Kishi Road, a route known to pass through forested areas along the Oyo–Kwara axis. The abduction occurred when armed men ambushed vehicles travelling along the road and forcefully took some passengers into the bush.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Command said it had immediately launched a coordinated rescue operation. The Commissioner of Police directed divisional officers and tactical teams in the affected areas to mobilise and track down the attackers.

Security operatives were deployed to comb nearby forests and strengthen intelligence gathering efforts, with authorities expressing confidence that the victims would be rescued and the perpetrators brought to justice.

In a related development, police later confirmed that a joint security operation forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims, who were subsequently rescued unharmed after an intensive search effort.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Oyo State, particularly along rural highways where criminal groups often target travellers. Residents and commuters have been advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes, assuring the public that efforts are being intensified to secure major roads and communities across the state.
