Residents of Calabar were thrown into panic after a gas station explosion triggered a massive fire outbreak, leaving several people injured and properties destroyed.
According to reports, the explosion occurred at a filling station and quickly spread to nearby buildings, causing extensive damage. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as thick smoke filled the area and residents fled for safety.
Several individuals reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident, while houses and surrounding properties were affected by the fire. The exact number of casualties has not yet been officially confirmed.
Emergency responders, including fire service officials, were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent further destruction. However, like many previous fire incidents in the state, the fire spread rapidly before being brought under control.
Gas and fuel-related fires are not uncommon in Cross River, where past incidents involving explosions and fire outbreaks have led to injuries and significant property loss.
Authorities are yet to release a detailed statement on the cause of the explosion, but investigations are expected to determine what triggered the incident.
