A teenager from Delta State has been tragically shot dead in Lagos while visiting a friend, in yet another incident that reflects the growing insecurity across parts of the country.
The victim, identified as Chike, had travelled to Lagos on a casual visit, but what should have been a normal outing quickly turned fatal. Reports indicate that he and his friend stepped out to withdraw money from a POS operator in the Ikotun area when they were approached by a group of suspected cultists.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the attackers demanded valuables, and although the teenager reportedly complied, he was still shot at close range. He died on the spot, while his friend was left unharmed. The gunmen fled immediately, leaving residents in shock and panic.
The killing is believed to be linked to cult-related violence, a recurring issue in some parts of Lagos that continues to raise concern among residents. What makes this incident even more disturbing is how random it appears a young visitor, with no known ties to such groups, becoming a victim of sudden violence.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the police, and no arrests have been confirmed, further fueling concerns about safety and accountability.
This incident adds to the growing list of violent cases across Nigeria, where everyday activities like visiting a friend or stepping out to withdraw money can suddenly turn deadly. It is a sobering reminder of the fragile security situation and the urgent need for more effective measures to protect lives.
