Tension is gradually giving way to enforcement in Osun State as police authorities have arrested 18 suspects linked to the violent attack in the Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities.
The arrests followed what officials described as a sustained, intelligence-driven operation, launched after hoodlums reportedly attacked security personnel deployed to maintain peace in the affected areas.
According to the police, many of the suspects had initially gone into hiding after the incident but were later tracked down through coordinated investigations.
What makes the development more striking is the profile of those arrested.
The suspects reportedly include a mix of community leaders and residents, with ages ranging from 18 to 65 highlighting how deeply the conflict may have cut across different levels of the community.
During the operation, security forces also recovered:
- A single-barrel gun
- A live cartridge
- A cutlass
Authorities say these items are believed to have been used during the attack.
The police have made it clear that this is only the beginning.
Efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects still at large, while those already arrested are expected to face prosecution.
