An empowerment programme organised by the City Boys Movement in Imo State ended in chaos after a large crowd of youths reportedly overwhelmed the venue during the distribution of empowerment items.

The programme, which was intended to provide financial assistance and other forms of support to young people, attracted hundreds of participants who gathered at the venue in anticipation of benefiting from the initiative. However, the situation quickly turned chaotic as the crowd surged toward the distribution area.

Eyewitnesses said the disorder began when participants rushed forward in an attempt to receive the empowerment packages. The sudden rush created confusion and forced organisers and security personnel to intervene as they tried to control the crowd.

Videos circulating on social media showed a tense atmosphere at the venue, with participants struggling to gain access to the distribution point while officials attempted to restore order.

The City Boys Movement, a political support group linked to supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been involved in several youth-focused programmes aimed at empowering young Nigerians through financial support, skill development and other initiatives.

However, the Imo incident has raised concerns about crowd management and event planning, especially for programmes that attract large numbers of youths seeking economic opportunities.

Some participants reportedly sustained minor injuries during the commotion, while others left the venue without receiving any form of support due to the disruption.

Local residents and observers have since called on organisers of similar empowerment initiatives to adopt better crowd control measures and clearer distribution systems to prevent future incidents.

Although the chaos disrupted the programme, organisers were said to be working on alternative arrangements to ensure that the intended beneficiaries eventually receive the promised empowerment support.
