There was chaos in Rivers State after suspected political thugs invaded and disrupted a meeting organised by the ADC Women’s Forum, forcing participants to flee for safety.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Eleme area of the state during a gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Young Women’s Forum. Eyewitnesses said the meeting was ongoing when a group of men stormed the venue, causing panic and confusion.

According to reports, the attackers dismantled canopies, scattered chairs, and forced attendees to abandon the event abruptly. Some participants were said to have been verbally threatened while others ran in different directions to avoid being harmed.

The meeting, which was meant to focus on women’s political participation and mobilisation, was brought to an early end as organisers struggled to control the situation.

Sources say the invaders claimed the gathering did not have proper approval from local authorities, though organisers insisted it was a lawful political meeting.

The disruption has sparked fresh concerns about rising political tensions and the safety of opposition party activities in Rivers State, especially ahead of future elections.

No official statement had been released by security agencies at the time of reporting, and it is unclear if any arrests have been made.
