The race for Oyo State’s top seat is already taking shape, and one major contender has now emerged.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has officially joined the 2027 governorship race, signaling the start of what could become a highly competitive political contest.
His entry into the race follows a strong show of support from stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibarapaland, who endorsed him during a zonal meeting held in Igboora.
What began as a routine political gathering quickly turned into a strategic moment, as party leaders passed a vote of confidence in the young Speaker, praising his leadership, loyalty, and role in maintaining legislative stability in the state.
Encouraged by the endorsement, Ogundoyin accepted the call and pledged his readiness to contest.
For him, the moment was more than political it was symbolic.
He described the endorsement as a “call to serve”, promising to focus on inclusive governance, unity, and sustained development across Oyo State if given the opportunity.
But beyond the speeches lies a bigger picture.
At just 30-something, Ogundoyin represents a younger generation of political leadership in Nigerianone that is increasingly stepping forward as older power blocs begin to shift.
His move also signals that the PDP is already positioning itself early ahead of 2027, with internal alignments and endorsements beginning to take shape.
Still, the road ahead is far from clear.
He is expected to face:
- Internal party competition during primaries
- Potential opposition from rival parties
- The broader challenge of winning statewide support beyond his political base
