The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a mother and her daughter over the alleged killing of their 70-year-old relative in the Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.
Police confirmed that the suspects — Loretta Asadu and her daughter Chikamso — were apprehended in connection with the murder of “Mama Oliver”, a 70-year-old woman who had moved to Ezema Nru to care for them. The incident took place on Tuesday, leaving residents shocked and sparking an investigation by detectives.
Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe said the suspects are in custody as the murder probe continues, with officers working to gather evidence and determine the events leading to the killing.
Neighbours told reporters that the deceased had complained of hunger shortly before the attack, and that the victim’s son had gone out to buy food at the time of the incident, deepening the community’s distress.
The development has drawn attention to concerns about intra-family violence and the safety of vulnerable relatives in caregiving situations, with authorities urging anyone with information to assist the ongoing investigation.
