Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly dismissed recent claims by the United States about its missile programme, calling them “big lies” and rejecting assertions that Tehran is developing missiles capable of reaching the US.

The statement from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, shared on the social media platform X, came after US President Donald Trump said that Iran was pursuing ballistic missiles with the potential to strike American soil and continued to press concerns about Tehran’s nuclear and military ambitions. Iran said the allegations about its nuclear and ballistic missile activities, as well as claims about protest casualties, were false and repeated “big lies.”

Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear programme is peaceful and denied intentions to build nuclear weapons, insisting it has the right to use nuclear technology for lawful civilian purposes. It also refuted claims about its missile capabilities, although US officials have long expressed concerns that Iran’s expanding military technology poses broader regional and global security risks.

The dispute underscores ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with both sides engaged in high-stakes diplomatic and military posturing even as indirect talks continue on nuclear issues and broader security concerns.
