A bronze statue of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was set on fire in a shocking incident on his home island of Madeira, capturing widespread attention after a video of the act went viral online. The incident occurred outside the CR7 Museum in Funchal, where a young man poured a flammable liquid over the 11‑foot statue before igniting it.

The vandal recorded the act himself and posted the footage on Instagram, identifying himself as a local man using the handle zaino.tcc.filipe. The video showed him dancing to rap music as flames briefly engulfed the statue and included a cryptic caption that read, “This is God’s last warning.”

Authorities say the fire was quickly extinguished, and it is not yet clear whether the statue sustained permanent damage. The CR7 Museum referred the matter to the Public Security Police (PSP), who have launched an investigation and confirmed that they have identified the suspect.

The Ronaldo statue, unveiled in 2014, is located near the museum dedicated to his career. It has previously been the target of vandalism, including a 2016 incident when it was defaced.

Fans and residents have expressed outrage over the attack, calling for respect for public property and cultural symbols. Police continue their search for the individual responsible as the investigation proceeds.
