The widow of a South African police officer has made a brief court appearance in connection with the alleged murder of her husband.

Mokheseng Nqxulelo, 32, is accused of killing her husband, a police sergeant attached to the Protection and Security Services (PSS). Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani confirmed that Nqxulelo appeared before the Aliwal North Magistrate’s Court on December 23, 2025, where she was remanded in custody pending transfer to the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court.

She is expected to return to court on December 29, 2025, to face a charge of murder.

According to Hani, the deceased officer was shot and killed at his home in Harare. Nqxulelo’s court appearance followed her re-arrest in Jamestown, Eastern Cape, by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit.

Hani explained that the incident dates back to February 2023, when the couple allegedly had a heated argument at their home. Family members were reportedly present at some point but later left after the dispute continued.

“The wife reported that the deceased went to fetch his official firearm. She believed he intended to shoot her, but instead he handed her the firearm and told her to fire a few rounds to release her anger,” Hani said.

Hawks investigations allege that the accused fired several shots into the wall of the lounge, after which she realised her husband was lying on the floor.

“She then ran to a neighbour to seek assistance. The officer was taken to hospital for medical treatment, where he was certified dead on arrival,” Hani added.

The case was initially set to go on trial in June 2025 but was withdrawn after a key witness could not be located. Hani said the matter was subsequently reviewed in consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Following the review, a warrant of arrest was issued, leading to the re-arrest of the accused and the reinstatement of charges.
