LAGOS, June 11, 2025 — The President of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Pretty Okafor, has been formally exonerated by the Nigeria Police Force following months of internal turmoil, legal battles, and allegations of misconduct within the musicians’ union.

At a press conference held Wednesday at the PMAN National Secretariat in Lekki, Lagos, Okafor presented the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the final Police Investigation Report, which he said “completely and unequivocally” cleared him and his leadership of all criminal allegations previously levelled against them.

“There was never any financial misconduct. There was never any forgery. There was no breach of the PMAN Constitution on my part. Now, the truth has finally prevailed,” Okafor declared.

Accusations of Internal Sabotage

Okafor recounted what he described as an orchestrated attempt by some members of the former National Working Committee (NWC) to illegally suspend him while he was on official duty abroad. He said the action violated constitutional provisions, particularly Article 13 and Article 18 of the PMAN Constitution.

“These individuals acted without due process. Their actions were unconstitutional, malicious, and driven by selfish interest,” he said.

He disclosed that the National Executive Council (NEC) swiftly reversed the suspension and took disciplinary action against the instigators. Among those affected were Boniface Itodo and Faga Bem-Paul, who were dismissed with compensation, and Sunny Neji, Zakky Azzay, and Michael Stephen (Ruggedman), who allegedly vacated their positions through collaboration with a rival faction.

Forged Court Order, Legal Manipulations

In a startling revelation, Okafor accused a police officer and a court clerk of colluding to forge a Post No Debit (PND) order against his personal bank accounts. The clerk, Hemmed Alfa, has reportedly been dismissed by the Niger State Judicial Service Commission and handed over to the police, while Inspector Caleb Samuel remains under investigation.

Okafor also rejected what he called a “fraudulent consent judgment” orchestrated by suspended PMAN members, using the names of George Dureke and Fruitful Mekwunye. He maintained that the case was never served at PMAN’s registered address, rendering the judgment void.

Allegations of Criminal Trespass and Asset Takeover

The PMAN president further alleged that the dismissed individuals broke into the PMAN Secretariat on two occasions in March 2025 and continued to impersonate PMAN leadership. He asserted that the real motive behind the crisis was the attempted takeover of the union’s assets, including the newly acquired PMAN Secretariat and the upcoming PMAN FM Radio.

“This crisis has never been about service. It’s about greed. It’s about controlling assets built under this administration,” he said.

To prevent future abuse, Okafor announced that PMAN had created an Asset Management Company to safeguard its properties and investments.

Developer Under Investigation

In what may be the most serious allegation yet, Okafor linked the unrest to Mr. Olufemi Olumeyan of Olusco Heritage and Investment Limited, the original developer for PMAN’s Abuja Monaco Project. He accused Olumeyan of fraudulent transactions, including the unauthorized sale of project units and possible involvement in illicit financial flows.

“The developer allegedly used the Monaco Project as a conduit for money laundering and defrauded a construction firm after collecting ₦350 million,” he revealed, citing a police forensic report confirming the authenticity of the development contract Olumeyan later denied.

Call for Justice and Industry Rebuilding

In conclusion, Okafor vowed to pursue all legal remedies against those behind the crisis and reaffirmed PMAN’s commitment to rebuilding.

“PMAN remains strong and strategic. We will pursue justice — civil and criminal — to hold every impostor accountable. This is about the soul of our industry,” he said.

The press conference ended with a reaffirmation of unity and a call to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s music industry.

Signed:

Pretty Okafor

National President, PMAN
