Atiku made the remarks on Tuesday during a press conference at his residence in Abuja, where he accused the Tinubu administration of prioritising efforts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections while Nigerians continue to grapple with poverty, rising living costs and insecurity.

“Fight hunger, not opposition parties,” Atiku told the President.

The former Vice President argued that many Nigerians were struggling to afford basic necessities, while businesses were facing mounting pressure from high operating costs and the effects of government economic policies.

He also accused the administration of directing its attention towards opposition figures and political parties instead of addressing the challenges affecting households and businesses across the country.

Atiku’s comments come amid heightened political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly following allegations by opposition figures that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to frustrate their political activities.

During the same press conference, Atiku accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of recruiting protesters to disrupt the ADC’s planned campaign rally in Sokoto State. He alleged that the move was intended to create disorder and provide justification for restricting the party’s activities.

He insisted that the ADC would not be intimidated and confirmed that he would attend the rally as scheduled.

The former Vice President maintained that Nigerians deserved a government focused on addressing economic hardship, protecting lives and property, and creating an environment where opposition parties could freely participate in the democratic process.

His remarks add to the growing exchange between the ruling party and opposition figures as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
