Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has appealed to the public to help identify and locate an elderly man accused of stealing mobile phones during the service of songs held in honour of his late colleague, Cjay Nwoks, in Lagos.

Arukwe raised the alarm in a post on his Instagram page after the ceremony, which took place on October 7, 2026, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Maranatha Church, in Gbagada, Lagos State.

Describing the alleged suspect as wanted, the actor claimed that the man attended the ceremony and stole phones belonging to filmmaker and fashion designer Kingsley Okoye Rex before disappearing from the venue.

Arukwe said closed-circuit television footage captured the man during the alleged theft. He shared images of the individual and urged anyone who recognised him or had information about his whereabouts to contact Okoye Rex.

Actor Jude Okpara also shared CCTV footage from the venue, which reportedly showed an elderly man picking up a purse and transferring it into a purple nylon bag. The purse was said to contain phones, ATM cards and other personal belongings.

The incident has generated reactions on social media, with some users alleging that they had experienced similar thefts at other social gatherings. However, those accounts have not been independently verified.

The alleged theft occurred during a ceremony organised to honour Cjay Nwoks, whose real name was Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor. The Nollywood actor died at a hospital in the Badore area of Lagos on September 30, 2026. The cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed.
