Nigerian singer Afunso Ridwan Abiola, popularly known as Rolex Dee, has regained his freedom after spending several months in detention over a legal dispute involving Fuji musician Adebisi Akande, better known as Taye Currency.
His release was announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by MC Bokujaka, who had led an online campaign calling for the singer’s freedom. The development followed weeks of efforts to meet the bail conditions imposed by the court.
Rolex Dee was reportedly granted bail in August, with the court setting the bail sum at ₦100 million and requiring two sureties, each to provide a ₦50 million bond. One of the sureties was reportedly required to be a member of his family.
However, his release was delayed by the process of perfecting the bail conditions, including verification of a property document submitted by one of the sureties. A report by Independent Newspaper Nigeria said the verification process at the Oyo State Land Registry had prolonged the process despite steps taken by his legal team to fulfil the court’s requirements.
The case originated from a petition by Taye Currency, who accused Rolex Dee of cyberbullying, defamation and issuing threats. The Oyo State Police Command confirmed in April that it had arrested the singer following a formal complaint, while maintaining that its actions were in accordance with due process. The allegations remain claims in a legal dispute and should not be treated as proof of guilt.
The dispute reportedly intensified after comments Rolex Dee made during an appearance on the Agbaletu programme circulated on social media. The controversy attracted public attention, with supporters and activists questioning the length of his detention and calling for his release.
Although Rolex Dee is now out of detention, the latest reports indicate that the legal proceedings are continuing. The Federal High Court in Ibadan has reportedly adjourned the case until November 24, 2026. His release therefore does not necessarily mean the dispute has been resolved.
