Senator Abubakar Umar Tutare, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Taraba State, has called on the federal and state governments to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the deadly attack on Binnari community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.

Tutare described the recurring attacks on peaceful communities across Taraba, particularly in Sardauna and Karim-Lamido local government areas, as worrying and unacceptable. He made the remarks on Sunday in a statement issued by Saidu Sadiq Adamu, Director of Media and Publicity of the Tutare Campaign Council.

The ADC candidate condemned the killing of residents in Binnari and expressed sympathy with families affected by the violence. He stressed that every citizen has a constitutional right to life, welfare and property, adding that government has a responsibility to protect these rights, particularly in vulnerable communities.

Tutare urged the Taraba State Government, the Federal Government and security agencies to move beyond statements of condemnation and take practical steps to prevent further attacks. He called for the immediate deployment of security personnel to vulnerable communities and the provision of adequate resources to address existing security gaps.

He also urged the relevant authorities to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible in accordance with the law, arguing that accountability would help deter future violence and strengthen efforts to protect lives and property across the state.

The attack on Binnari occurred on Friday, October 23, 2026, when armed men reportedly invaded the community, killing residents and destroying property. The death toll remains disputed: police initially confirmed that 10 bodies had been recovered, while Amnesty International reported at least 40 deaths and community accounts cited by Channels Television put the figure at 50. The figures have not been reconciled, and searches for missing residents have continued.

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has also condemned the attack and called on security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible. Security personnel have been deployed to the area as authorities work to restore calm and protect residents.

Tutare’s statement adds to growing calls for stronger security measures and accountability following the killings, as affected residents face the loss of loved ones, damage to property and displacement from their homes.
