Vice President Kashim Shettima has unveiled the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) campaign headquarters in Abuja and formally inaugurated the movement’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event, held on Saturday, October 17, brought together leaders and members of the movement alongside other political stakeholders supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, announced Shettima’s arrival at the newly established headquarters in a post on X.
According to Nkwocha, the event was designed to formally launch the movement’s campaign structure and provide a platform for engagement on the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure development and efforts to expand investment opportunities across Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Arewa for Asiwaju is a political mobilisation platform established by northern political leaders, former governors and lawmakers to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The group operates across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The movement is chaired by former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, while former Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar serves as its Director-General.
Other prominent figures associated with the initiative include former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Geidam.
The group has established directorates responsible for communications, finance, youth and women mobilisation, parliamentary affairs, religious institutions, traditional rulers, civil society and other areas of political engagement.
The campaign structure is expected to coordinate grassroots mobilisation across northern Nigeria and promote the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration ahead of the next presidential election.
The inauguration follows the movement’s public declaration of support for Tinubu’s re-election earlier in October, when its leaders said they intended to counter claims that the Federal Government had neglected northern Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Shettima emphasised the need for supporters of the administration to defend its policies with facts and measurable results. He acknowledged that Nigerians had experienced difficult economic adjustments and said the government must honestly explain its decisions, achievements and continuing challenges.
The Vice President also stressed that public support should not be taken for granted, urging the campaign organisation to maintain engagement with citizens and ensure that their concerns reach government authorities.
He said the administration’s priorities included security, economic opportunities, poverty reduction, education and stronger public institutions.
