Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a 25-year-old woman allegedly assaulted and held hostage at Usiefrun Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

The police also arrested a 29-year-old suspect, identified as Brotugbare Francis Onome, in connection with the incident.

According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was carried out on October 3 following credible intelligence received by the Otu-Jeremi Division.

Edafe said operatives mobilised to the community, where they found and rescued the woman, while Onome was arrested at the scene.

A search of the suspect’s premises allegedly led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol, one magazine and two rounds of live ammunition, the police said.

The development was disclosed alongside other operations in which the command arrested four additional suspects in separate cases involving an alleged kidnapping plot and a cult-related killing.

In Abraka, operatives arrested 37-year-old Endurance Akpade and 43-year-old Edwin Friday Morgan over an alleged conspiracy to kidnap a woman on October 1. The suspects were apprehended following intelligence received by the Abraka Division, with the assistance of civilian anti-cult operatives.

Meanwhile, two other suspects, Ezekiel Sunday Izomor and Emmanuel Ogaganefe, both 23, were arrested in connection with the alleged cult-related killing of a 25-year-old man identified as Godfrey at Jesse Main Market in Ethiope West Local Government Area on March 24.

The police said a battle axe, four cutlasses and a hammer were recovered during the operation. Two other suspects allegedly linked to the killing, identified as Collins and Richman, remain at large.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for what he described as their swift response and effective intelligence sharing.

He urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police and warned youths against involvement in cult-related activities, while investigations into the various cases continue.
