The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them from carrying out their lawful duties in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not disclosed, and Yunana Ali, were arrested on October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road in Bauchi, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
Habib said the suspects were arrested by operatives of the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team during a routine enforcement operation under Operation Velvet.
According to the police, the officers intercepted a vehicle driven by Friday and requested the vehicle’s documents for inspection. The suspects allegedly refused to comply and became hostile towards the patrol team.
The spokesperson further alleged that the duo physically assaulted the officers during the confrontation, with one of the suspects allegedly tearing the uniform of an Inspector of Police.
The suspects were subsequently subdued and taken to the ‘E’ Division, where an investigation into the incident has commenced.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged attack, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts.
He warned that the command would not tolerate attacks on officers performing their lawful duties, while urging members of the public who have grievances with police actions to use appropriate legal channels.
The command said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations and urged residents to cooperate with officers during routine enforcement operations and avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.
