The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abashi John, over the alleged abduction of an 11-year-old boy in Edor community, Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
The police said the boy was later found injured in the suspect’s residence, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the injuries he sustained.
According to reports, the child’s father, 57-year-old Raphael Eyo, reported the incident at the Edor Police Outpost shortly before 10 p.m. on October 5, 2026. He alleged that John had taken his son under the pretext of ensuring that the boy returned home safely, after which the child went missing.
The father reportedly said he contacted the suspect, who claimed to have dropped the child off in front of the family’s home. However, the following day, Eyo and some community members visited the suspect’s residence, where they allegedly found the boy in a room with a head injury.
The police subsequently arrested John and took him into custody for questioning. The case has been transferred to the Ikom Police Division for further investigation, while the child is receiving medical attention in coordination with his family.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of the public. He urged residents to promptly report missing children and suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
The police also cautioned members of the public against speculation and taking the law into their own hands, stressing the importance of allowing investigators to establish the facts of the case.
