The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Prince Emmanuel Ademola Aderoju as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Hazeem Gbolarumi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement comes as political parties intensify preparations for the election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) publishing its final list of candidates for the Oyo State governorship race. Gbolarumi is listed as the PDP’s candidate on the commission’s published list.

The selection of Aderoju completes the PDP’s governorship ticket as the party seeks to strengthen its position ahead of the poll. The party is expected to rely on its grassroots structures and political network across the state to mobilise support for the candidates.

Gbolarumi previously received the PDP’s Certificate of Return as the party’s governorship candidate at a ceremony held in Ibadan in June 2026. During the event, he pledged to support the party’s other candidates and called on members to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots level.

The PDP will face competition from candidates of other political parties, including Sharafadeen Alli of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulrahman Oriyomi Hamzat of the Accord Party, Abimbola Adekanmbi of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The 2027 election is expected to generate intense political activity in Oyo State as parties seek to persuade voters through campaigns, policy proposals and grassroots engagement.

With Aderoju’s selection, attention will turn to how the PDP’s candidates organise their campaign and present their plans to voters ahead of the governorship contest.
