One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries after a Lexus Jeep 350 crashed along the Lagos Coastal Road, inward Eko Hotel.
The fatal crash occurred on Friday and involved a grey Lexus SUV with registration number LSD 554 KV, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Preliminary information released by LASTMA indicated that the vehicle lost control, collided violently with a roadside pole and subsequently overturned.
LASTMA operatives monitoring traffic in the area quickly mobilised to the scene, secured the affected section of the road and coordinated emergency response efforts.
With the assistance of Good Samaritans, the three injured victims were extricated from the wreckage and taken to Duck-Yard Hospital within the Military Zone for urgent medical treatment. Security personnel from Victoria Island also assisted with the rescue operation.
LASTMA officers later removed the mangled vehicle from the carriageway to prevent a secondary crash and restore traffic flow along the route.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condoled with the family of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution while using the state’s roads.
Bakare-Oki warned that excessive speed, reckless driving and loss of vehicular control could have serious consequences for motorists and other road users.
LASTMA also urged members of the public to promptly report road crashes, vehicle breakdowns, obstructions and other emergencies through its toll-free short code, 3367.
