Nigerian comedian and Nollywood actor Okey Bakassi has dismissed rumours that his marriage to his wife, Ezinne, has collapsed, describing the reports as false and disrespectful to his family.

The rumours circulated on social media on Monday after a post alleged that the actor’s wife had requested a divorce following years of living abroad with their children while Bakassi remained in Nigeria working and sending money to support them.

Reacting in a video shared on social media, Bakassi said the claims were fabricated and stemmed from a video he had previously made about Nigerian politics that was taken out of context and given a misleading narrative.

He explained that the report had caused concern among friends, relatives and fans, many of whom contacted him and his wife to confirm whether the allegations were true. The actor insisted that he and his wife were still together and urged the public to disregard the reports.

Bakassi also faulted the publication for claiming that his wife lived in the United States and worked as a nurse. He clarified that she lives in Canada and said the claims about their alleged separation were inaccurate.

The comedian further disclosed that he and Ezinne had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Canada. He described his wife and children as the most important people in his life and criticised those who shared the report without first verifying the information with him or his family.

He urged fans and family friends who encountered the misleading publication to report the account responsible for circulating it, saying the claims had caused unnecessary distress to his family.

Bakassi’s response comes amid renewed concerns about the spread of unverified celebrity stories on social media, where misleading captions and posts can quickly generate speculation about public figures’ private lives.
