Nollywood actress and filmmaker Adunni Ade has announced the death of her mother following a prolonged illness, expressing grief over the loss in an emotional tribute shared on social media.

The actress disclosed the development on Monday, October 19, 2026, through a post on her official Instagram page. She revealed that her mother died on Sunday, October 18, after battling an undisclosed illness for an extended period.

In her tribute, Ade began with the Islamic declaration, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” meaning that humanity belongs to Allah and will ultimately return to Him.

She expressed sorrow over her mother’s passing while submitting to the will of Almighty Allah, describing the loss as deeply painful for the family.

The actress also prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy upon her late mother, asking that her grave be filled with light and that she be granted Al-Jannah Firdaus. She further prayed for strength and patience for the family as they navigate the difficult period of mourning.

Ade said her mother was survived by her children, grandchildren, sisters and other loved ones who would continue to cherish her memory.

In a heartfelt farewell, the actress reaffirmed her love for her mother and expressed hope that they would be reunited in paradise. She also indicated that details of the funeral arrangements would be announced later.

The actress had previously spoken publicly about her mother’s health challenges. In October 2019, she shared photographs of her mother receiving medical treatment in a hospital, describing her as a strong woman and expressing hope for her recovery.

Following the announcement, colleagues in the entertainment industry, friends and fans took to social media to offer condolences and prayers for the bereaved family. Actors Yemi Solade and Sophie Alakija were among those who expressed sympathy, while other entertainers also shared messages of support.

Adunni Ade has established herself in the Nigerian film industry through appearances in both Yoruba and English-language productions. Her announcement has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from admirers who have joined her in mourning the loss.
