Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have suspended their 50-day industrial action for an initial period of eight weeks following the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) announced the suspension on Friday, October 16, 2026, after reviewing the outcome of a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the governor to address the issues that triggered the strike.
The meeting, held on Thursday, October 15, at the hospital’s Gangway Hall, brought together government officials, hospital management, lawmakers and representatives of healthcare workers to discuss the outstanding demands.
The association identified its major demands as the passage of the Medical Residency Training Act Bill, payment of outstanding 2025 minimum wage arrears and implementation of the Revised Professional Allowance Table.
Following the meeting, the state government made several commitments towards resolving the dispute.
According to the association, the government agreed to pay the outstanding 2025 minimum wage arrears on or before mid-November 2026.
Makinde also directed the establishment of a multi-stakeholder committee to develop modalities for implementing the revised Professional Allowance Table within six weeks.
On the Medical Residency Training Act Bill, the governor reportedly committed to ensuring its passage by October 28, 2026, with assent expected within the first week of November.
The doctors said the commitments demonstrated the government’s willingness to address their welfare concerns and strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.
At an emergency general meeting held on Friday, members of the association resolved to suspend the strike for eight weeks to allow the government and hospital management time to fulfil the agreements reached.
The association subsequently directed all resident doctors to resume full clinical duties on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
