The Katsina State Government has dismissed reports linking the disturbance in Yankara, Faskari Local Government Area, to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s campaign rally, insisting that the incident arose from a disagreement during a Maulud procession.

The government’s position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.

According to the statement, preliminary information indicated that the disturbance followed a disagreement between participants in a Maulud procession and security personnel over the designated route for the procession. The disagreement reportedly caused confusion along a public street in Yankara.

The government stressed that the incident had no connection with the governor’s campaign activities or the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 campaign rally held in Faskari.

It explained that Governor Radda passed through Yankara safely on his way to Faskari, where he first visited the palace of the district head and was received by traditional leaders.

The governor later proceeded to the Faskari Local Government Secretariat to inspect ongoing renovation work before attending the campaign rally and meeting residents and supporters.

The clarification followed reports of violence in Yankara, where vehicles were reportedly attacked and set ablaze, while several people sustained injuries. Some accounts had linked the disturbance to the movement of political supporters travelling to attend the governor’s rally.

However, Channels Television reported that eyewitnesses alleged that APC supporters heading to the rally were attacked, while the Musa Adamu Network also claimed that one of its vehicles was burnt during the incident. These accounts differed from the state government’s explanation of the events.

The government called on security agencies to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding the disturbance.

It also urged media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before sharing reports capable of creating confusion or heightening tension.

Residents were advised to remain calm, maintain peace and avoid spreading unverified information as authorities work to establish what happened.

The statement did not provide details on the number of people injured or confirm whether any arrests had been made in connection with the Yankara incident.
