The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of presidential candidates and their running mates for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with 18 political parties fielding candidates for the country’s highest political office.

The list, released in Abuja on September 12, 2026, and signed by the commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, includes incumbent President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and other prominent political figures. The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, following a revision of the electoral timetable.

According to the published list, Tinubu will contest under the All Progressives Congress (APC) with Kashim Shettima as his running mate. Atiku Abubakar is listed as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate.

Peter Obi will represent the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso listed as his running mate. Other notable candidates include Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Adewole Adebayo, African Action Congress (AAC) candidate Omoyele Sowore and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

The list also features candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Allied Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA), National Democratic Party (NDP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Young Progressive Party (YPP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

INEC’s publication lists 16 male presidential candidates and two female candidates. The female contenders are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the NDP and Nkem Esther Okereke of the NRM. The commission also listed 18 vice-presidential candidates, comprising 14 men and four women.

The female running mates are Peace Egobia Ofordile of the APP, Nafisat Usaku Abubakar of the DLA, Hajja Bintu Konto of the Labour Party and Patience Ndidi Key of the YPP.

The release of the final list follows the completion of political party primaries and forms part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. The commission has also published candidate lists for the Senate and House of Representatives contests.

With the official list now public, attention is expected to shift towards campaign activities, party mobilisation and policy debates ahead of the presidential election. The contest will feature both established political figures and candidates seeking to expand their parties’ national influence.
