The Bayern Munich and England striker secured 1,055 points to finish ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, who collected 1,027 points. Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal finished third with 881 points.
The figures show how closely contested the award was, with Kane narrowly edging out Mbappé despite the French forward receiving strong support from the voting panel.
According to the published breakdown, 98 of the 100 voters included Kane among their top 10 players, with 40 placing him first. Mbappé appeared in the top 10 of 97 voters, but received 23 first-place votes.
The top 10 was completed by Rodri in fourth place with 726 points, Lionel Messi in fifth with 612, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in sixth with 541, Ousmane Dembélé in seventh with 418, Erling Haaland in eighth with 378, Michael Olise in ninth with 296 and Fabián Ruiz in tenth with 201 points.
The Ballon d’Or voting system requires journalists representing the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings to select and rank their 10 preferred players from the nominees. Points are awarded according to each player’s position on the ballot, ranging from 15 points for first place to one point for tenth place.
Kane’s victory marked the first time an Englishman had won the men’s award since Michael Owen in 2001. His recognition followed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign in which he scored 73 goals for club and country, helping Bayern Munich secure domestic honours.
The narrow margin between Kane and Mbappé has highlighted the competitiveness of this year’s award, with the newly released figures providing a clearer picture of how the journalists’ votes determined the final outcome.
