The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly posed as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the government says it never established or authorised.

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday, October 12, 2026, following an application by the Federal Government to terminate the proceedings and transfer the case to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for a fresh arraignment.

The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation had reviewed the case file and identified loopholes in the original charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police.

Oyedepo explained that the alleged offences involving documents purportedly forged by Adeyemi were more appropriately handled by the FCT High Court. He informed the court that fresh charges had already been filed before that court and that the defendant would be arraigned again without delay.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, did not oppose the prosecution’s application. Justice Umar subsequently granted the request and struck out the case before the Federal High Court.

Adeyemi had been facing charges alongside two other defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, whose whereabouts were reportedly unknown. The eight-count charge bordered on alleged conspiracy and forgery.

The case attracted public attention after authorities alleged that Adeyemi had operated a fictitious government agency, obtained office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and secured a budgetary allocation of approximately $1 million. Prosecutors also alleged that he used documents bearing official government markings to seek cooperation from public institutions.

Adeyemi has denied wrongdoing and previously maintained that the council was legitimate. The allegations have not been established by a court.

The striking out of the original charge does not amount to an acquittal. The Federal Government has indicated that it intends to pursue the case through fresh proceedings at the FCT High Court.
